Spouses [whether de jure ("married") or de facto] of:
• Australian citizens;
• Australian permanent residents; or:
• Eligible New Zealand citizens;
Who apply outside Australia for a permanent visa (namely, visa 100) on the basis of that relationship must, as a prerequisite for the visa 100, hold a visa 309.
STUDENT VISA (570)
The student visa program was restructed with effect from 1 July 2001.
The student visa subclasses are:

Subclass 573 Higher education sector visa

THREE MONTH RESIDENT RETURN (157)
Subclass 157 (Three Month Resident Return) is part of the Return (Residence) Visa Class (Class BB).
TOURIST (Short Stay) (676)
This visa is for persons who wish to visit or stay in Australia for up to 12 months for purposes other than business or medical treatment.
It does not have secondary criteria; all applicants must satisfy primary criteria.
TRANSIT (771)
Transit visas are issued to people outside Australia who intend to pass through Australia on their way to another country or to join the crew of a ship
VISITING ACADEMIC (419)
The Visiting Academic visa is primarily intended for persons:
• Who are employed as academics or researchers in tertiary or research institutions in overseas countries.
• Whose primary purpose of stay is to observe or participate in research projects at the invitation of an Australian tertiary institution or research organization; and
• Who will not receive any form of payment from the inviting institution, other than an allowance towards living expenses.
